“I’m an organic kind of guy. To paraphrase Fight Club, the food you eat, ends up eating you. Organic food is slowly taking the food industry by storm and seems to be tasting success. Organic food crops are raised by eschewing synthetic pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and genetically modified seeds. It’s a tiny fragment of overall food production but organic farmers—who grow and process a plethora of organic gourmet items that are hard to find at regular stores—have been reporting a significant hike in demand and sales. So if you’re anti-GMO, herbivore or simply someone with the penchant for pickles and honey, you have to check out these Organic Farmers’ Markets in NCR.

Delhi Organic Farmers’ Market:

Produce enveloped in a gorgeous fresh sheen, laid out humbly on tables manned by farmers from places near and far, sometimes as far away as Rajasthan. Organized in the Malcha Marg Community Centre in Chanakyapuri—the Sunday Delhi Organic Farmers’ Market (DOFM) makes a statement distinction by offering affordable organic produce that can be bought from actual farmers who grow it themselves. By knocking down the whole middle man business, the consumers are able to buy cheap groceries while the farmers are able to sell them at a healthy margin. Their lively facebook page keeps one updated with their ongoing innovative affairs. Whether it’s educating people about vermicomposting, spreading  awareness amongst people about organic food or bestowing the customers with savoury dishes like til ke ladoo (rich in omega 3, calcium and folic acid), organic halwas and laying down handcrafted, organic cheese—their efforts are truly commendable!

Gurgaon Organic Farmers’ Market:

This weekly market brings together everything from exotic, local and organic fruits & vegetables, cheeses, non-perishable groceries (organic and natural), bakery, gourmet food, natural beauty products, grains, oils and natural beverages. Organized by the Sushant Lok RWA at the community centre in Sec 43, this market brings together farmers from nearby areas like Sohna, Damdama and Faridabad, who sold lab-tested organic produce to the residents. The farmers charge customers 20% higher than what they charge a middleman but still manage to stay aloof of the extravagant prices that are otherwise expected out of such produce. People are appealed to bring their own bags keeping the ‘organic vibe’ alive. You could indulge in some lovely breakfast in the lawn and buy your very own potted veggies!
