In our hectic, modern lives, most of us are so busy meeting work requirements and family commitments that we never seem to have time for pure fun. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we’ve stopped indulging in an activity that was an integral part of all of our lives — playing. Leisure time has become more about ‘getting a few drinks’ or lying on the couch in front of the TV or computer rather than engaging in fun, rejuvenating games like we did as children. But just because we’re adults, that doesn’t mean we have to take ourselves so seriously and make life all about work. We all need to play, the focus of which is on the actual experience, not on accomplishing any goal. By giving yourself permission to play, you can reap the myriad of health benefits throughout life.
The next question that arises is, “Whom do I play with?” Well, we have got news for you! Introducing the Board Gamers of Delhi, a community dedicated towards getting board and card game enthusiasts from across NCR together over weekend afternoons in Gurgaon and Delhi. They aim at facilitating social, offline, and fun game sessions. What’s more — they love to have new people and embrace novices as a part of their community, instantly. So, if you’re the shy-kind with streaks of introversion, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
The board gamers established this genius idea in October 2014 in one of the founder member’s basement. Since then, they have built an army of 600 game enthusiasts among whom there are about 50 active gamers and have hosted over 80 rendezvous. The venues have upgraded to bigger and better venues with a collection of over 100 games.
These board gamers have clearly laid down the policies of their community which answers all kinds of queries that a newbie may have. They usually have about 8 -10 group games available for a game session and one can feel free to bring their own. The games last from 20 minutes to 3 hours at the the end of which the tables are switched and a new game begins.
They make sure that a particular game has been explained in case there is a newcomer in the group. There are games of varying complexities so if one feels that a game is too complex for their taste, they are free to join another table. Games involving any real money are not allowed. Do keep in mind that these guys are pretty strict about the rules and have clearly proffered the following statement: “This is a hobby group and not a dating / singles / networking / business solicitation group.”
One can find all the event details on their Facebook group and are free to come whenever it is convenient for them. In case you’re hunger-struck, you have an option of either having food delivered or have it the location itself as the sessions are mostly held in public locations. Don’t forget to clear your part of the bill before taking a leave.
Find them on Facebook.
We are all set for some exciting round of games. Are you?
